SCHOOL'S OUT FOR SUMMER!

Well, everyone except for the public school district my kids are part of are out of school. Yah, you guessed it...RUSD! Yay, me!

A week or so less days that I have to find things to do to keep my kids active and engaged during these long-awaited summer days, I guess. I'm looking at the positive and it's so exciting the opportunities the kids have whether it's jumping into one, some, or a ton of the choices that Just Add Kids has listed in our Camp JAK Kids Summer Camp & Program Option Directory, doing something with the family or friends, free play in the yard, or just chillaxin'. Summer really needs to be a mix of all of that. Dontcha think? Read more....

I encourage you all to check out our website's JAK Happenings Calendar of Events A LOT! There are three of us that add events to that calendar on an on-going basis. Even if you check it once a week, you are bound to miss out on something! Put it on your calendar, to regularly check our calendar!

Our weather has been far from seasonable. I've been waiting for those 80 degree days, and I so far...not so much! Yet soon, (and I cannot wait), we'll be looking for indoor escapes to beat the heat.  There are a number of indoor activity centers for families with kids of all ages. Here's a list:

America's Action Territory - (Kenosha) A wide choice of indoor and outdoor attractions, games and food selections. Indoor options are: arcade, bumper cars, BallOCity, laser tag, and The Heist.

Family Tree Haus -(Franklin) Indoor playground for children up to 10 years old.
JumpZone - (Franklin) Party and Play Center which features massive, themed inflatable slides, obstacle courses and bounce houses kids love, interactive games, toddler activities and more.

The Big Backyard, LLC - (New Berlin) An indoor playground and birthday party center that provides a fun, clean, and safe place for children ages 0-8 to play, celebrate special events, and learn through our enrichment opportunities.
Helium Trampoline Park - (New Berlin) Features 140 trampolines with Open Jump All Day Everyday!
Kids In Motion - (New Berlin) Open Play area for toddlers/preschoolers, laser tag for ages 5 and older, arts and crafts, and cafeteria.
StoneFire Pizza Company - (New Berlin) A state of the art arcade area with touchscreen arcades, classic pinball, and old standbys like skee-ball; bumper cars, mini-bowling, multi-level BallOCity, Frog Hopper ride, candy store, buffet & sports bar!
Sky Zone Milwaukee - (Waukesha) Indoor trampoline park offering active fun for all ages.

BOREDLike I mentioned earlier, free play is part of a healthy mix. Kids need to use their imagination to fill in some of the time. I know in my home they'll all be gravitating toward the TV, Wii, Nintendo-DS, iPad, laptop...you get the point. And I'll be pointing them to the Legos, the art cabinet, the book shelf. My kids really don't mind to be given a project to do, if it's not presented as a chore.

I hope this blog post helps to fend off the B-word we as parents so many times hear from our children.

Here's to a summer full of activity, relaxation, awesome weather, and fun! CHEERS!

AWESOME Dad

Well, most are! I know your kid's daddy might not be tops in your book, yet, in the eyes of your child, he probably is. I am so grateful that when my husband and I mutually took the risk to vow to spend our lives together, then had/have children, (while not always perfect) he ended up being quite the awesome dad. Assist your child in sharing his/her celebration of dad. (Um, I am sure you know, Father's Day is next Sunday, June 17th).  Here's a great way to do that, pocket $100 gift card for your kiddo, and knock out that Father's Day gift!  Here's how... For the third year in a row, Just Add Kids has partnered with Educators Credit Union  to bring you, your kids and their daddy a fun contest in celebration of Father’s Day.  This year, RelyLocal Racine is also partnering with JAK and providing a plethora of gift cards perfect for dad. Why is my Child Spooning Beans?                           The Importance of a Montessori Education Sponsored by Small World Montessori At first glance, a Montessori classroom is not like that of any other.  Upon entering you may find a child spooning beans between 2 dishes, another working with a map of South America, or playing the bells by scale.  These are just a few of the unique activities in a Montessori classroom. We offer a homelike environment in which we approach education of the "whole child" through hands on, self-directed activities. How is it possible that children are working independently at their own activities?   Read More... The environment is carefully staged with progressively difficult, self-correcting materials, and most instruction is delivered one on one. Our extensive curriculum spans from 2 1/2 through 6 years old.  The mixed age classroom allows the child to work at her own pace and since instruction is individual, no child is left behind or forced...

JAK Gives Birth!

It's A Blog! If you've been a JAK Happenings subscriber for some time, you're probably used to the format of this weekly email: big JAK logo at the top, partner banner ad, this commentary section, little index box, more fantastic partner ads, then the meat of the message...JAK Happenings calendar picks, finally some closing comments.
