On Tuesday, August 4th, Americans come together in their neighborhoods to celebrate the 31st Annual National Night Out. In 1984, "America's Night Out Against Crime" began in an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie. The goal is to send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back. National Night Out culminates annually, on the first Tuesday of August. (with a few exceptions, as you'll see!). Here's what is happening in your neighborhood, in terms of NNO organized events.   Read more... FREE Eats & Fun!

Kids Eat FREE or On the Cheap! by Just Add Kids Founder, Paula Herrmann What's for dinner, mom? If you're anything like me, dinner time and planning dinner is often times a challenge. I'm not too skilled in the kitchen, and quite honestly, as much as I'd love to be...I'm just not interested. There! I said it. So okay, I have a few winning menus. Key word: few . Admittedly, our family finds itself on the hunt for a restaurant, fast food or sit down, that the 6 of us, depending on who's home, can agree on. So, JAK is compiling a list of area restaurants with yours and mine family budget in mind. This is by all means not a

A Time to Celebrate!

Why Do We Celebrate the Fourth of July? A Quickie Lesson in History Sourced from   Kids Play and Create July 4th is Independence Day or also known as America’s birthday in the United States. Here are some Independence Day facts for you and your children: We celebrate the 4th of July because it represents the day that America became separate from British rule. Under British rule the Colonists were unhappy with British government.  They felt they were unfairly taxed and had no vote on the laws that affected them. The colonists decided to write a document announcing they were no longer part of the British government and they were going to be a new nation called the United States of America. This document is known as the Declaration of Independence. Rea d more... On July 4th 1776 the Declaration of Independence was signed giving the United States independence from Great Britain.
